Tämä oli ensimmäinen muutosprojekti New Yorkista paluuni jälkeen. Opiskelin vajaan vuoden Manhattanilla sisustussuunnittelua ja valokuvausta. Asuin East Villagessa boheemissa loft-henkisessä asumiskäyttöön muutetussa liiketilassa. Asunnon huonekorkeus oli 4 metriä. Parvelta näkyi tapahtumarikkaalle kadulle ja asuntoon kantautui urbaani suurkaupungin äänimaailma.

New Yorkin kodilla oli inspiroiva vaikutus myös Ullanlinnassa sijaitsevaan Pietarinkadun asunnon valintaan. Lähtökohtana oli löytää asunto, jossa yhdistyisi koti ja tunnelmallinen työtila. Valo, avaruudentuntu ja meren läheisyys olivat neliöitä tärkeämpiä kriteerejä. New Yorkin asunnossa kalusteita oli ollut vähän, joten lattiallakin pystyi työskentelemään erilaisten tilasuunnittelu ja valokuvaustöiden parissa. Tämän työskentely-ympäristön halusin tuoda myös Pietarinkadun asuntoon.

Aika Manhattanilla varmisti päätökseni heittäytyä kokonaan tilasuunnittelun ja valokuvauksen maailmaan. See and Feel otti ensiaskeleensa Pietarinkadulla.

This was my first renovation after returning from New York. I studied interior design and photography in Manhattan for almost a year. I lived in East Village in a bohemian loft apartment which had been converted from a commercial space. The ceiling was 4 meters heigh. A lot of events were held on the street below, which you could see from the loft, and you could hear the urban soundscape of a big city in the apartment.

My New York home inspired me when I decided to buy my apartment on Pietarinkatu Street, in the neighborhood of Ullanlinna. My starting point was to buy an apartment where I could combine a home with a cozy work space. Light, sense of space and the proximity of the sea were more important than the number of square meters. I didn’t have much furniture in my New York home, so I could work on my spatial design and photography projects on the floor. I wanted to have the same kind of working environment in my apartment on Pietarinkatu Street. My time in Manhattan sealed my decision to throw myself completely into the world of spatial design and photography. See and Feel took its first steps in this apartment.
